First Scenes??

Wondering about the first scene - where does the movie starts?

Suggestion I:

The movie starts in Japan. In retrospect the life of Renee before coming to japan is shown.

Suggestion II: Renee should be a man or Algonquin is a man so that we have a couple which could potentionaly become a romantic relationship but will not end in Love due to the different believes they have and do not share?

The movie starts in Japan but there should not be much of the life of Renee as she is born in Senegal and then traveled by ship to Japan, where she is shipwrecked with her parents off the coast of Ryukyus (modern-day Okinawa).

No, Renee must be a woman, but a woman disguised often as a man, under the pseudonym of Chevalier de Cherbourg, in her journey across Eurasia. The bond between Renee and Algonquin is close, intimate to the point of carnal desire. Renee is Abelard to Algonquin's Heloise. Look up the story of Abelard and Heloise?
In fact, both Renee and Poniatowski compete for the affection, love, of Algonquin: that is the love triangle

..."must be a woman"..."disguised as a man" - well I am aware that it is fashionable to show relationships between woman and the harmony being destroyed by a man - mostly it is the attempt to bash on paternalistic ideals / society - what this leads to is nicely described by Mitscherlich in "Society without the Father: A Contribution to Social Psychology". Thus I am very unhappy about the idea to have two woman and the message it would give. It would be ok to show them in a sister like relationship but you clearly want it to be borderline lesbian at best. Now does the world really need more homosexual behaviour shown to them? Please let me know why it is so important to you to have two woman? And why would she be disguised as a man?

In addition it is something that has already been done before in Hollywood's film and pop world. Also if you want to present / introduce a fashion line through this movie then we need a man aside a woman to present it?

My vision is to present Rene and Algonquin as ideal couple in a modern view realizing that what they believe in is even stronger and more important then their physical attraction to each other. Both Renee and Poniatowski compete for the affection, love, of Algonquin who converts to Christianity and refuses both in the end and scarifying herself to help the suffering instead.... Rene is refused because of his melancholic nature - Poniatowski because he sided for the French.

Renee has to be a woman. Even sisters can be jealous and compete with a man. And that is not lesbian but unspoken love. Otherwise, that would be too Jesuitical. Life is often otherwise.
